Oleana, Cambridge

Well everyone my birthday was on Monday – woohoo! Thankfully my lovely boyfriend enjoys eating and trying new places as much as I do. For my birthday dinner he found and took me to Oleana in Cambridge, MA.

For those of you who are thinking, “Turkish food? What is that?” it’s really just part of the Mediterranean feel. If you like Greek and Lebanese food, you’ll like Turkish food.

We started out with some delicious cocktails – I got the Pomona, with beet juice and eucalyptus infusion.

We then moved on to a bottle of wine and sharing some mezze (small plates). Here’s what we got:

  • Warm Buttered Hummus
Not your traditional hummus. Two balls of hummus wrapped in basturma (cured meat), topped with tomatoes. YUM!
  • Whipped Feta
With sweet and hot peppers, this was a great dip
  • Cacik
This is very similar to a tzatziki in flavor, but had spring peas, cucumbers, and spinach mixed in. It was really refreshing
  • Basturma Dumplings
    Need I say more?
  • Lamb and Grape Leaf Tart
The flavors of cumin and the basturma were mouth watering.

We moved on and shared the steak tips because BOY WERE WE FULL! It was a great evening. Check out their full menu here, and definitely check it out.
